Goldeneyes is a wonderfully intricate story of love, redemption and surprise. While romance propels the plot, the search for identity is also woven into this well balanced tale of faith and destiny. Inspirational on many levels, you'll enjoy trying to outguess the author to solve the mysteries evolving from the first one.

A man with golden eyes makes a decision that will affect two families forever in his quest to find money for booze during the Great Depression. It takes over 20 years before the families can even start to heal. Will they be able to ever move on?
The lives of two young women will depend on the secrets that each family has been holding onto for so long. When they both start having the same dreams.
Goldeneyes was a good story with a great plot and some very unexpected plot twists. I was uncomfortable with how some of the story played out, not to say that it took away from the story but some Christians that read this may not like a few plot devices. Overall, I really enjoyed Goldeneyes. I was so wrapped up in the story I read it straight through without stopping.

I absolutely loved this story. Once I got into the main storyline I could not put it down. I even gave it five stars, which I usually reserve for books that make me change my way of thinking about something, but the reason for this five stars is altogether different yet still well deserved. I felt it was a book that really got to my soul with the feelings it brought forth and made me feel right along with the characters. It all began in a farm labor camp in California when the lives of many were changed by a choice made by one man. How can his wrongs be made right many years later as truths begin to be revealed? The lives of many are interconnected, and as everything unravels, the truths will be brought to light and the workings of God throughout the whole situation will be made evident. This is a well-written story that has depth of emotion and character. I would highly recommend this book.

Author Delia Latham is a fulsome writer. With her story Goldeneyes I saw through
another one's eyes. I could find my self in the shoes of a man that fell into the
clutches of alcohol and how he found his way out. This journey through a broken
heart of losing a child because of situations that arose will leave your heart beating in a new way. This wonderful story is one of the best I have ever read. As I read this
story I felt as I was learning, and growing. Soulful, Touching, Stirring and gripping
Goldeneyes is and more. This story has such artistic depth and full of emotions, it
will send you on a roller coaster ride that will bring such pleasure. I give this book 5
Stars. One of the best writers of our time; Delia Latham has a intelligent way with
words, it is as if each word in the story has its own color and as you read a brilliant
picture is being painted on a blank canvas, leaving a masterpiece in the mind long
after you are finished. This is a must read, don't miss out, this book has so much
heart and soul it lives in itself. Wonderful.

I had the privilege of writing a review for this book about 10 months ago and have waited, very impatiently, for its release. This is the absolutely best book I have EVER read and I read, at least, 5 books per week, usually more!
Ms. Delia Latham wrote this unbelievable story and her expertise in details just iced the cake! I absolutely could not stop reading. It was a page-turning masterpiece which will, I am sure, be on all the best-sellers lists.
This storyline spanned several decades and, even though it contained many characters, there was no confusion. Ms. Latham has a golden stroke with her computer. Her writing is truly touched by the Hand of God! This fabulous story will capture the skeptic. Be warned, though. You will not have the book figured out until you, literally, read the very LAST word. Whatever you do, read this book. Then buy it for your friends. I assure you I intend to. I've never in my life been this affected by a book, either before or since. Surely this author will reach amazing heights in her career. Do yourself a favor and try it for yourself. I promise you will NOT be disappointed.

Long and Short Reviews
Addiction can drive a man to do some pretty awful things, but to sell his baby? In the dead of night, when the demon takes control and you have nowhere to turn, you might possibly be driven to do even that. Just ask Jack Kelly. He'll tell you...
Jack Kelly starts this novel off with a bang and a horrendous confession. And while his physical presence in this novel is short-lived, his spirit is in every chapter. Despite his despicable act, he is a fascinating character. His love for his wife is everything in his world and yet, his demon is more dominant. I would have liked to get to know him just a bit better.
Juliana Camden is an inspiration in herself. A writer of inspirational fiction, she finds herself suddenly reading and answering mail for an advice column. This, in itself, will change the course of her life. I loved the fact that she is very devout and yet is still unsure of herself at times. However, she is a very loving and caring person, taking each and every request for advice to heart. We'd all be lucky to have someone like her on our side.
Gillian Parsons is quite the opposite of Juliana. While still being an extremely honest and caring person, she has been lacking in faith since the death of her father. She is probably the more realistic of the two women, as we all have a crisis of faith at least once in our lives, although I know women like both of these young ladies. The fact that, just because her faith has been misplaced, she doesn't give up completely says a lot about her character and the upbringing she's had. Watching her grow and find what she'd lost was a wonderful experience.
From the very first page, I was drawn into Jack Kelly's story. Rich storytelling combined with believable and lovable characters only enhanced the already well-woven plot. Goldeneyes was filled with twists and turns and surprises I never saw coming. Add to this the faith and Christian values sprinkled throughout the pages and you get an amazing story of love, faith, and endurance of spirit that you won't soon forget. Delia Latham's Goldeneyes is a treasure of story sure to make an impact on anyone who picks it up.

This book has so much potential for a bestseller!! I enjoyed it so much I almost couldn't put it down long enough to eat. The storyline basically captivates you from the getgo and just keeps getting more and more interesting as you read. It has been very cleverly written to bring you into the character's world of emotions so that you're anxious to get to the next page to see what the outcome will be. The book does not slow down from getting interesting but just keeps building right up till the very end. 'Goldeneyes' is a mustread!!!

From the first chapter of this book I was caught up in the characters. This author had me hooked from the beginning. These characters were so real to life to me I just had to know what would happen next. I was surprised with every turn of the pages. I loved it and would love to read a sequel.

A riveting story, characters that come to life and several unexpected plot twists kept me glued to this book until I turned the last page. A snoring drunk greets the local newspaper editor on the office doorstep one morning with a unique request. He is dead broke but wants to try and find the daughter he sold for the sake of a drink a few days earlier. He is asking the editor to run an ad for him in an attempt to locate the infant girl. Will the baby be reunited with her grieving mother and will the errant father be able to resolve the dilemma his impulsive choice has left him embroiled in?
This touching story of family ties, faith and consequences along with the journeys of many lives touching one another in ways they don’t know is a must read. This author manages to blend Romance and Suspense into a masterful plot inhabited by characters that come to life on the page. I can’t wait to read more of her novels.
The Road to Romance

It was 1936 and many farming camps were springing up in California. During that time immigrants traveled to find just enough work to feed their families. Jack Kelly and his wife, Annie settled at a place called Corman Camp. Times were tough, and even tougher when Annie becomes pregnant. Annie is elated but Jack is none too happy. But with the great love that he has for his wife Jack learns to accept the pregnancy. Months go by and Jack Kelly, unable to handle the stress, begins to develop a heavy drinking problem.
One day Clarence Camden, owner and publisher of the Limelight, finds a foul smelling drunkard laying across the doorstep to his place of business. After dousing the drunkard with ice cold water, Camden braces at the foul words hurled at him by the drunkard. As the drunkard gets up, Camden is surprised by the shocking color of his eyes - not brown or auburn but a rich gold color that seemed to have a peaceful and claming effect. This is what caused Camden to make a peace offering of hot food and a warm place to rest.
The next day, burdened with a terrible dark secret confessed by Kelly, Camden happens upon the scene of a fatal accident in which he identifies the body of non other than Jack Kelly. Feeling connected and grounded with a belief that God orchestrates all things, Camden asks to notify the widow of Jack Kelly.
Years later, Jack Kelly’s secret begins to manifest in strange and uncanny ways. It’s this dark secret turned tragedy that haunts Jack Kelly’s widow Annie days and nights on end. But surprisingly Annie only knows a small part of secret.
GOLDENEYES, by Delia Latham is filled with brilliant and shocking surprises wonderfully placed throughout the story but appropriately left for the ending of most chapters. Miss Latham creates the characters in such a way that all of them no matter good or bad become likeable by the ending of the story. The best part of reading GOLDENEYES was just when you think the ending of the story is predictable, Miss Latham shocks you and tempts you to read further. This book is definitely a page turner and a very easy and compelling read.

Romance Reader at Heart

There's a part of me that really enjoys reading a good inspirational romance. I've actually read my fair share of them, and one of my all time favorite books happens to be an inspirational romance by Tamera Alexander called REKINDLED. I couldn't resist the opportunity to read Delia Latham's book, an inspirational romance called GOLDENEYES.
GOLDENEYES is a well-written, soul-stirring story about a terrible wrong that was done to one family and the repercussions that lasted for many years because of it. It's also a story of the good that can come by putting your faith and trust in God. Finally it's a story of redemption, forgiveness and love.
I was compelled to keep turning the pages of this book long into the night. It's really a beautiful story that at times is touched with such sorrow and angst. Juliana, Gillian, Annie and Mary Helen are the backbone of this story. Each of their lives take dramatic and unexpected twists and turns. It's really not until GOLDENEYES has almost ended that Ms. Latham lets the reader in on how intricately those ladies lives are connected.
Delia Latham's GOLDENEYES is a wonderful inspirational read. Not only that, it is also a tender romance. It's nice to read sweet romances, and it's also nice to have some spirituality woven into the storyline. GOLDENEYES touched me and hopefully it will touch you, too.

This is my first taste of Delia's writing, and I must say I’m intrigued by her intricately woven work. Come back in time to 1936 to glimpse a mysterious scenario, then jump to 1959 and watch the consequences of that night in the lives of several families.
Juliana is offered a long-coveted job writing for a Christian magazine, and the boss first mistakes her for his lookalike cousin before trying to resist strong feelings. Gillian cares for her weak mother, who aches to reveal a long-hidden secret. Daniel, Gillian’s childhood friend, sets out to seek God and makes some surprising discoveries, and Juliana’s parents set about telling her the real truth of what happened all those years ago.
What if you had relatives you never knew about? What if a drunkard’s remorse could finally lead to astonishing revelations for his children? What if twins can feel each others’ pain, and what if God sends an angel that looks more like a tramp? One by one, the dots are joined, slowly, carefully, until the picture is complete. I think you’ll like what you see when you step back to take a look.
It’s a wonderfully convoluted double-triple romance peopled with a great many preachers, writers, dreamers, and mothers. Old diaries, a golden ring, a mysterious traveller with golden eyes, and many unexpected twists make this story highly enjoyable - a very clever piece of sweet inspirational romance with a delightfully satisfying conclusion.

Once Upon a Romance
Robyn
Jack Kelly has done the unthinkable. In a moment of absolute need for alcohol, he sold his daughter. When his wife awakens in the morning, she believes her daughter has been stolen. Then after telling his story and asking newsman Clarence Camden to place an ad asking for the return of his girl, he gets himself killed in a drunken stupor. Clarence goes to tell his widow Annie of his death. Eventually they marry and raise their daughter Juliana, while Annie never forgets her baby who was stolen.
Years later, Gillian Parsons is worried about her mother. Her mother seems to be worsening each day and nothing helps. Gillian doesn’t know about the secret her parents have kept from her for her entire life. They adopted her as a newborn. It was to save her from parents who didn’t love her. They couldn’t believe the man with golden eyes would sell his daughter for a drink.
From there, a chain of events is set into motion that is so bizarre, only God could have orchestrated it. Gillian’s mother wants to find out if the man who sold Gillian to her could have lied. Is there another mother out there yearning for her daughter?
Annie is plagued by migraines and is constantly telling her daughter how sorry she is. Juliana does freelance writing from home to take care of her mother. When an opportunity arises to be on staff at a Christian magazine, Annie insists that Juliana takes the job. When the beautiful golden-eyed Juliana meets her new boss Will, he mistakes her for his cousin. After such a warm greeting, even though it’s mistaken identity, Juliana finds herself in love with her new boss.
In this story, we get to know both Gillian and Juliana and hear their personal struggles. This story is born out of a sorrowful event, but shows that God’s purpose will shine through. The central theme is that God really will work things for good—even things that may have been intended for evil. We may not understand all He does, but we can trust in Him to work everything out for our good.
A poignant story that really pulled at my maternal heartstrings. I could feel the anguish of each mother as they lived in their own private torment. I agonized with them as it appeared the situation could never resolve. There were moments of total hopelessness. However, the good news is that God was working and bringing resolution beyond all I could imagine or dream. This story is very inspirational without becoming preachy or lecturing.

Oh, my goodness! I need to return to school to update my vocabulary in order to do justice to this book! Never have I read anything quite like it! This is the most unbelievable story I have ever read. Maybe someone could envision this plot; however, there is no way anyone could possibly match Ms. Delia Latham’s expertise in her details. I could not stop reading; it was that mind-boggling. I could not wait to turn the page. This book is bound for greatness…it should be seen on all the top-seller lists.
This incredible story started in 1936 in a place in California called Corman’s Corner. Clarence Camden tripped over a drunk as he tried to get into the office of his newspaper. That one action set off a chain reaction which would take decades to put back together. The drunk, Jack Kelly, told Clarence about selling his baby daughter for a few dollars so he could buy alcohol. His golden eyes literally burned into Clarence’s heart as he tried to understand the situation. He later identified the body of Jack at the site of a train accident by the ring on his finger.
Clarence wanted to tell Jack’s widow personally about his death; he never could tell her Jack had sold her baby. Her entire life, Annie grieved for her lost daughter. Then there was her daughter, Juliana, who truly trusted God for her life. She loved her parents, but grieved for her mother’s illness. She, of course, knew nothing about the past.
These characters are forceful and complex. Rarely have I ever seen a script written with so many characters which did not end up confusing readers and complicating the plot. However, this never happened here! Ms. Latham has a golden stroke with her computer! Truly her writing is touched by the Hand of God! This phenomenal story will capture the skeptic! Do not assume that you have this book figured out until you read the very last word!
Whatever you do---look for this book in 2008!

The book opens with a startling confession made to a newspaper man. Someone has given up their child so he can get money to drink. When the man dies shortly after his tale, there seems little reason to get the law involved. Then the book moves forward twenty years.
Julianna's mother had been ill most of her life. The strange thing was when her dear mother was struggling the most, she would beg her daughter's forgiveness. True, Julianna's dream had always been to work for a magazine, to be a staff writer and rub shoulders with her fellow wordsmiths, but concern for her mother's health galvanized her resolve to stick to freelancing. However, when an offer from a magazine does present itself, her mother forces her to accept. Julianna could have never dreamed what taking that job would mean for her life, or the relationships she would gain from taking the job.
Gillian's mother suffered from ill health as well. But Gillian supposed that losing one's spouse was never easy to recover from. Gillian's life is spent caring for her mother, and enjoying the company of her best friend Danny. But after her long days of caregiving, her nights are spent worrying about what will happen to her once her mother is gone. Losing her precious father has already cost her and her mother more than they could say. The only other family are her grandparents. Writing a letter to the letter of a magazine is the way Gillian copes. Gillian could never dream who it is that will answer her letter. When her mother sends Danny on an unexpected journey it is only then that Gillian realizes the true state of her heart.
I found this book to be wonderful. It has a little of several different genres, and I love that. I found both young women to be delightful to read about and get to know. And I loved how Ms. Latham weaves the whole story together, leaving no unanswered questions at the end. God truly works all things together for our good, and this story is an excellent example of that. |
